Welcome to 6th Grade Science at ISM

Dear Parents,

In case you don't know, my name is Neil Freeman and I am your child's 6th Grade Science teacher. This is my 10th year at ISM, and my 7th year teaching 6th Grade Science. My eldest son is in Grade 1 at ISM and my youngest is in Pre-School 4 at ISM. My wife is Mrs. McElhinney who last year moved from 4th Grade ES teacher to 5th Grade English/Social Studies teachers.

It has been a good year so far getting to know your sons and daughters who have come into the school year with a friendly, positive, agreeable attitudes. Each year, Mrs. Vergel and I fine-tune the 6th Grade Science program to make it better and better. Last year, we changed the order of the units made significant changes to what we did in second quarter which made 6th grade science even more hands-on.

I look forward to meeting many of you at Open House on Wednesday August 24th. In the meantime, if you haven't already please ensure that your children have a complete set of materials, which I have relisted below:

  • Zippered 3-hole binder with which will be the portfolio for student led conferences in March
  • Pens (Black, blue & Red)
  • 2 (#2) pencils
  • Pencil Case
  • Eraser
  • 30 cm ruler
  • Colored pencils/markers
  • Accordion file for taking work home
  • Glue stick or tape
  • Water bottle
  • Close Toed shoes when we're in the Science Lab
  • Planner
  • Earphones

Second last but not least, students will be keeping a digital learning journal in 6th Grade Science. Please ask your child to see their blog from time to time and have some conversations with them about what they are learning.  Finally, I will be posting the daily work and homework which you can see in the above blog.  This is where they should go if they are absent and/or don't know if they have homework.

Mr. Freeman
